Laurenzo’s Prime Rib
For a solid craving for Prime Rib, where in Houston to go? So many people just don’t serve it or plainly serve it wrong. So, we checked out Laurenzo’s Prime Rib on Washington. Laurenzo’s is owned by the same folks who own El Tiempo (of which I am a fan). I was little unsure of the decor of Laurenzo’s as I felt like the place suffered from a little bit of an identity crisis — sports memorabilia on the walls mish-mashed up with eclectic chandeliers and stained glass. But, if I looked past that, the service was good and the prime rib was great!
The menu is a little of a mish-mash as well with everything from queso and spinach artichoke dip to seafood to a turkey sandwich to, of course prime rib. On Prime Rib selections, you have choices: Would you like the Texas Cut (extra thick, 16 ounces)? AFrench Dip? Maybe a Prime Rib Quesadilla? We tried the Space City Cut at only 8 ounces. $24.99. It came with au jus and a side (we picked skin on garlic mashed potatoes).
Space City Cut of Prime Rib with Mashed Potatoes and Au Jus
The Prime Rib was cooked well. Tender. Moist. Thick. Flavorful. Manly. The meat was good alone (no au jus or horseradish really were need). The piece was a smidgen fatty, but really that is barely worth mentioning. The piece was masterfully seasoned and cooked. The mashed potatoes were fantastic, too. Hearty. Thick. Substantial. Full of flavor. A delicious meal.
So, if you have a hankering for Prime Rib, Laurenzo’s is a good place to try out.
